Biography
Peter Bodley is a guitarist who has released two CD’s of original music since 2004. These are instrumental works written for solo guitar and for guitar duets. The style is eclectic with a mix of classical, folk and flamenco. He is told that his CD’s are enjoyed for many reasons and his performances are well received. A family man, Peter plays a lot to children. His next release will be a children-oriented CD of popular/traditional tunes.
Born in Capetown, South Africa, Peter grew up in Montreal, Canada where he began folk guitar lessons at the age of ten. His peers instructed him in classical and rock technique, however, Peter is primarily a self-taught musician. His independent study of the guitar combined with music theory courses has allowed him to acquire necessary improvisation and composing skills.
His influences are many. Firstly, he was exposed to classical guitar through rock and roll artists such as Steve Howe, Alex Lifeson and Rik Emmett. This led him to explore the splendor of the Spanish guitar. He listened to the repertoire of astounding guitar players like John Williams and Liona Boyd. Most recently, he became familiar with flamenco rhythms and melodies by listening to compositions by Canadian guitarists Pavlo, Jesse Cook, Oscar Lopez and Robert Michaels. Peter began recording guitar with tape recorder about twenty years ago while he was in university. Afterwards, he set up a digital studio to record the pieces found on his first and second CD's.
Peter has performed in a wide variety of venues. As a solo guitarist, he has played for the local arts council and societies. He is frequently asked to play at benefit concerts and community oriented events. A registered professional forester in the province of British Columbia, Peter now resides in Creston. He works as a timber cruiser in the biologically diverse forests located in the Kootenay region.
The audio is a composition titled Marsh Melody.
